There is a reference to continued fractions in the works of the Indian mathematician Aryabhata (– C.E.). In a work called the Aryabhatiya, we find one of the earliest attempts to produce a general solution to a linear indeterminate equation of the form \(by=ax+c\) where \(a,b,\) and \(c\) are integers.
